Residents
Yesterday's Melbourne Times published this letter from me on the Hard Rubbish issue.
Dear Editor,
The removal of the six-monthly hard rubbish collection by Yarra Council has been a mistake.
Most residents are not opposed to the new personalised pick-up (where you ring Council to collect your hard rubbish), but this should supplement not replace the old system.
Dumping has increased throughout the municipality with the demise of the six-monthly collection, as many residents are not aware of the new service or don’t phone for other reasons.
In September, Council will review how the change has gone. I encourage residents to let Council know what they think on the issue.
I will be proposing a return to the six-monthly collective pick-up of hard rubbish. Your support will help get this over the line.
Regards
Stephen Jolly, Councillor City of Yarra, Socialist Party
