This Wednesday July 27 the Melbourne Branch of SP will host a public meeting - The lessons of the Eliott dispute. Both Kerin and Main were witnesses at the trial of Melbourne boss Anthony Eliott who violently drove a truck through a picket line nearly killing workers. Over 200 residents attended a rally in Fitzroy yesterday despite the cold weather and drizzling rain. The rally was organised by the Yarra Campaign Against the Tunnel (YCAT) to protest against the State Government’s plans to build a tunnel linking the Eastern Freeway to Melbourne’s western Suburbs. The Kurds of northern Iraq saw the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq and the autonomy that was granted to them by the US-backed Iraqi government, as a path to achieve freedom and independence. However, the result has turned out to be the opposite of what the majority of the Kurds expected.
