Over 200 people packed Brunswick Town Hall last night for the Solidarity meeting against racist disunity called by the Socialist Party (SP) and the Electrical Trades Union (ETU).
The audience was wildly diverse ranging from construction workers to Muslim youth, from leftists to public housing tenants. One older woman travelled from Morwell in the La Trobe Valley to attend the meeting. (more…)

The Socialist Party has announced that they will be standing Yarra Councillor Stephen Jolly in the Lower house seat of Richmond at the upcoming Victorian State election. Stephen has pledged that if elected he will not take the full wage of a State MP. As a representitive of working people he will only take the wage of a skilled worker and donate the rest back to the workers movement. (more…)

Post office management has sacked 1400 postal workers who have been employed as daily-wage workers for decades. One sacked worker described the situation in these words, ?we worked for this department and served the people for years, but they have sacked us for no reason. Our families have been thrown into abject poverty and hunger.? The sacked workers have announced a fight back and have decided to launch a protest campaign.

It?s timely that the ETU is supporting the Solidarity meeting to be held this Thursday at the Brunswick Town Hall, starting at 7 pm. If the riots in Cronulla weren?t bad enough, only a few days ago the captain of the South African cricket team was lamenting the racist abuse being delivered at members of his team in Australia.
