China: Explosion causes severe water pollution

The Songhua River is severely polluted after an explosion, on 1 November, at the Jilin Chemical Industrial Co., a unit of ?PetroChina Co?, China?s biggest oil company. Five workers were killed in the explosion.

The UNITE campaign for casual workers rights, in Australia, would like to send solidarity greetings and congratulations to the Unite members at Starbucks in New Zealand. These workers staged the first ever strike at Starbucks world wide yesterday and are fighting for a $12 minimum wage and secure hours. See the Unite (NZ) media release below. Trotsky on Bonapartism and Fascism

Brilliant 1932 article by Leon Trotsky, the leader of the socialist opposition to the Stalinists. Written in opposition to the ultraleft idea of the Stalinists at the time who categorised all those outside their party as fascists, with social democracy called ’social fascists’. Useful to read today as the word ‘fascist’ is grossly over-used on the Left and the concept of ‘bonapartism’ is relatively unknown. Click here to read (more…)
