Why I joined the Socialist Party
Before joining the Socialist Party I had some dealings with a few other left groups in Melbourne. While they were well meaning, I was not impressed by their rhetoric and inaction.

When I attended the Socialist Party’s meetings I found a fighting group with a long history of real grassroots action.
For example in 1992 the Kennett Liberal government shut down hundreds of schools in Victoria. Richmond Secondary College was one of only a few schools saved because of a year long community campaign. The Socialist Party played a key role in this campaign as they have with many other campaigns since.
The Socialist Party also helped to establish UNITE, a new union for workers in the fast food and retail industries. In 2008 UNITE forced a video shop in Carlton to back pay $4300 to underpaid workers. Recently they have won significant pay rises for 7-Eleven workers in Geelong.
The Socialist Party is a fighting democratic organisation with links to similar parties world wide. If you want to do more than just talk about changing the world you should join Socialist Party.
