New book from China Worker

China, Sweatshop of the World – The Coming Revolt, this is the title of a new book by Vincent Kolo and Chen Lizhi from chinaworker.info. The book was launched for the first time last week in Hong Kong.

“China’s GDP has grown by an annual average of 9.6 percent for 30 years, leading most Chinese under 40 years of age to believe this is ‘normal’. Not least, this has underpinned the relative cohesion of the CCP ruling group – the absence of the destabilising open splits that characterised much of its pre-1989 history. Few regimes in the world therefore have more to lose from the global capitalist crisis that is unfolding.” So argue the authors in China, Sweatshop of the World, published by chinaworker.info.

Successful Hong Kong launch

The book is part anthology, part new articles that have not been published on the website, dealing with factory conditions, the rural crisis, pollution, Tibet and Xinjiang, and the likely effects of China’s current sharp economic slowdown. The English edition of the book was launched in Hong Kong on Monday 20th October and so far is available at six bookstores in the territory. The Chinese edition will be published next month and should reach into more bookshops, with interest also from some outlets on the mainland.

At 92 pages, the book retails at HK$80, with a 50% discount for mainland China residents. Copies of the book can be ordered from chinaworker.info. please email cwi.china@gmail.com
