On Friday March 7 a successful community assembly of up to 150 activists shut down Qantas Valet Parking’s operations at Melbourne International Airport. The action took place for several hours from 6am in support of Australian Services Union (ASU) members who were either forced onto individual contracts or sacked for refusing to sign.

Two thirds of Qantas Valet Parking’s staff were sacked after refusing to sign individual contracts (AWAs) that resulted in a huge loss of conditions compared to their collective agreement.

The jobs of 70 Qantas workers were put in jeopardy when a new contractor took over the Valet parking on March 1. Some of these workers have worked at Qantas Valet Parking for up to 18 years.
