Johan Rivas, a Venezuelan trade unionist and socialist will speak at a special public meeting in Melbourne on January 23. The details are: 7pm Wednesday January 23 in Meeting Room 1 @ the Victorian Trades Hall. Trades Hall is located on the corner of Lygon & Victoria Streets in Carlton South.

Johan is a member of Socialismo Revolucionario, which is the sister organisation of the Socialist Party in Venezuela. He is also a trade union activist in the health sector.

Currently Venezuela and the continent of Latin America is at the fore of the fight back against neo-liberalism. At this special public meeting you will hear a first hand account of the struggles taking place. Johan will also report on the new situation that is developing since the defeat of the constitutional referendum on December 2.

It is hoped that this meeting will provide a forum for socialists in Australia to discuss the processes taking place in Venezuela and the way forward for the revolution. We hope it will also play a role in strengthening solidarity with workers in Latin America. There will plenty of time for questions and comments and everyone is welcome to attend.

The meeting has been organised by the Socialist Party and is being supported by many organisations including the Latin American Solidarity Network (LASNET), Australia Venezuela Solidarity Network (AVSN) and the Centre for Latin America Solidarity & Studies (CLASS). We thank all of these groups for their support.
