Victoria: All out against Howard on Sep 26

Join the rally against Howard meet 10am Wednesday 26th September 2007. Assemble at Trades Hall, corner of Lygon and Victoria Sts, Carlton South. March through the Melbourne CBD to Flinders St. Meet SP members at our office in Trades Hall at 9.30am. The following is the text of the leaflet that SP members will be handing out on the rally.

Everyone on this rally wants to see the back of John Howard and Work Choices. If the Coalition is kicked out in the election, workers will be over the moon and this will give us and our unions more confidence to fight and regain what we’ve lost.

Nevertheless it won’t be easy for workers under a Rudd ALP government. He is the most right-wing ALP leader since Billy Hughes.

He will keep the ABCC for several years; he will allow bosses to vary Awards to make them more ‘flexible’; and he won’t bring back right of entry for our union officials.

That’s why we say vote Socialist first if you can; then Green and put the Liberals and racists last.

More importantly, we need to get ready for 2008 even if the ALP win. We have to get our unions into shape with militant leaders and militant actions to keep members’ morale high.

‘Keeping our head down’ to help Kevin Rudd only demoralises our members and encourages bosses to have a go.

Come to the public meeting at Trades Hall after the rally today to discuss these ideas in more details.
